Senior choir is taught by Bonnie Kay, Ferncourt’s music teacher.
The choir is open to any students from years 3-6 who love to sing. No previous experience is necessary and there is no audition to join. Participating students will learn some singing techniques and practice/perform varied repertoire that includes student song choices. Students are welcome to come along for the first month of sessions to see if they like it. After this time period they will be asked to make a commitment to weekly rehearsals and performance opportunities.
Ferncourt participates in the Primary Proms concert at Town Hall for stage 2 singers and the Festival of Choral Music at the Opera House for stage 3 singers. These performances are only open to members of Senior Choir, so there’s even more reason to join now!
Please come along and try it out if you love music.
Senior Choir is on Wednesday morning and takes place in Ms Kay's classroom (C13). It runs from 8:30- 9:15. Drop ins are welcome until and including week 5 of term 1.
As rehearsals during school time are very short, choristers must commit to home practice.
If performing at the annual Festival of Choral Music or the Primary Proms in term 3, students will be expected to memorise approximately 8 pieces for performance at each event. They will be given learning materials such as sheet music and recordings to assist. This is sent to parents and will include a link to the materials.
For the Festival of Choral Music, students will need to attend a one rehearsal in the city, then a full day at the Opera House and evening concert a month later. These excursions are supervised by Ms Kay and a parent volunteer.
The Primary Proms is similar and performed about a month later.
Choristers will also perform at school assemblies and school events.
The annual fee of approximately $40 is only payable if your student performs in the annual Festival of Choral Music or Primary Proms. This is optional but is highly recommended.
