We want to re-brand our Ferncourt Music Programs! We want a new name for our combined musical program.
Whether you are in band, strings, choir, guitar, recorder or ukulele - we are one big noisey musical family. Let's give ourselves a name under which we can all perform.
Enter as many times as you want. Open to all Ferncourt students and families.
Deadline - please submit by Friday 4th April. (Although we may extend the deadline if needed.)
Next steps - The music co-ordinators will review the entries, and get student & school approval. After this, we will be opening a logo design competition.

Senior Choir rehearsal will be on Friday morning this year and take place in Ms Kay's classroom (C13). It runs from 8:30- 9:15. Drop ins are welcome until week 6.
The choir is open to any students from years 3-6 who love to sing. No previous experience is necessary and there is no audition to join. Participating students will learn some singing techniques and practice/ perform varied repertoire that includes student song choices. Students are welcome to come along for the first month of sessions to see if they like it. After this time period they will be asked to make a commitment to weekly rehearsals and performance opportunities.
This year Ferncourt will be participating in the Primary Proms concert at Town Hall for stage 2 singers (rehearsal Monday, first half of lunch) and the Festival of Choral Music at the Opera House for stage 3 singers (rehearsal Thursday, 2nd half of lunch). These performances are only open to members of Senior Choir, so even more reason to join now!
Please come along and try it out if you love music.
Our lunchtime recorder groups started last year , learning the first song for our performance at the Opera House in August. It isn't too late for your child to join us- we have spaces for beginners, intermediate descant players, tenors and trebles. Please feel free to contact me for more information. We will also perform at school events. Students can just come along and play with us at lunchtime without joining us at the Opera House, but would still need to practice at home to keep up with the rest of the group.
This group will rehearse first half of lunch on Thursdays. This group is open to anyone in years 3-6 who wants to learn ukulele or can already play. Students can try out the school ukuleles while we rehearse at lunch for the first month but will have to buy their own ukulele if they want to join the group so they can practice at home. Students wishing to play guitar in this group must be also receiving lessons with a teacher who can help them learn the repertoire, as guitar is a much more complex instrument and there isn't enough time to teach children how to play it.
Music is a wonderful thing for children to be a part of. It enhances motor skills, helps to build relationships, develops language skills, improves management of emotions, builds self-confidence and self-esteem and encourages teamwork to name only a few. It can be a lifelong friend. I encourage all children to get involved in one of the many music groups on offer at Ferncourt.

Ferncourt Public School has a strong tradition of music within the school and all students are encouraged to participate in one or more of the musical ensembles. In addition to the extracurricular music program, which offers musical ensembles from kindergarten through to year 6, music is also a key learning area of the mandatory strand of creative arts. This includes a recorder program for all students from year 3 onwards.
All Ferncourt students are encouraged to join one or more of the musical ensembles, even if they have no past musical experience.
Students who are new to music can join the Training Band, Ukulele or Recorder ensembles, or one of the choirs. Children who already play a band or string instrument are encouraged to join the ensembles.
Students participating in the band and strings programmes will need regular private tuition to ensure correct technique as well as to ensure progression within the ensembles as well as their individual learning.
The Band and Strings programmes are led and administered by the Ferncourt P&C and rely on the passion and expertise of parent volunteers such as yourself. Parents who would like to be involved in the band / strings committee are encouraged to get involved by emailing ferncourtbands@gmail.com
Volunteering is rewarding and requires only a small time commitment. Parents are rewarded with unique insights into their child's education and the opportunity to positively enhance the music programmes at Ferncourt.
Some of the tasks of committee members may include helping out with events, invoicing, instrument stock takes and repair shop visits, interacting with conductors, and other administration tasks such as maintaining a list of current students, and corresponding with parents/carers. There are 2 committee meetings each year.
Parents/carers are welcome to attend music rehearsals if you would like to see them in action. Parents/carers who play instruments are also invited to play with the ensembles on occasion to support the groups. This is a fun way to be involved!

The educational benefits of music include fostering self-discipline and a sense of achievement as musical skills are accomplished, boosting self-confidence, promoting harmonious teamwork, providing social connections and relieving stress, and even providing future employment opportunities. There is also growing evidence that music can have significant beneficial effects on academic outcomes.
