The Gardening Bee was fun because we did banana stripping, mulching, cutting and we got to eat some cake!
My favourite was banana stripping. When we did banana stripping the adults cut dead branches and the kids picked up the strips and put them in a pile. After that we did mulching, we sprinkled the mulch around the garden to help the plants grow.
After that we crushed “bad” branches. Then we cut some leaves on the sharp spiky plants think of it as giving them a haircut. At the end we had strawberry and coconut cake and peppermint tea (from the garden) and all the kids played in the playground.
It was the biggest gardening day ever!

Last Friday, on Feb 21, Ferncourt hosted its annual Welcome Back Barbeque. The place was bustling with children and their relatives who were eager to take a bite of the free grill-cooked sausages and freezing-cold iceblocks. To add to that, there were tables with information on the school Band, Strings group, choir, and many other wholesome activities, including the Marrickville Marauders, an after-school fencing club. Other than those events, there was a second-hand uniform shop and Eco garden and outdoor learning.
The Barbeque commenced at 3:30 and finished at 5:30. But it was only made possible by the amazing volunteers who gave up their evening to contribute to helping us make the Barbeque happen.
I’d been looking forward to this for days. So when the bell rang to signal the end of school, I rushed out the door as fast as my legs would carry me. I was signed into OSHC so I had to wait till Mum came, but the moment she signed me out, I was off like a bullet. I devoured three sausages and a couple of ice blocks. Immediately after, I contributed towards promoting Strings and Band, as I play in the Strings group. The rest of my time there was spent on hanging out with my friends and putting up Band posters.
A big thanks to our helpers- (apologies if anyone was missed!)
